With Apple dominating headlines for the past decade by launching revolutionary products, creating new tech categories and generally showing the world how to "do" digital content, the Big M, as nobody calls it, needed to pull something out of the bag. This year, that something is coming to a computer, tablet, phone and games console near you. It's called Windows 8 and it's going to reignite the Microsoft vs Apple feud like never before. On this blog we would talk about the rivalry, the showmanship and the new kit as the biggest tech battle.

There's talk of an iPad Mini arriving at the end of this year, but this seven-inch Android tablet seems to have already stolen its thunder, being fast, powerful and, more importantly, affordable.

We would also talk about gadget tests that include cinematic home projectors, a Blu-ray player bust up between Panasonic and Samsung, first reviews of Nintendo's larger-than-life 3DS XL and Canon's brilliant new 650D DSLR. We also definitively declare which smartphone has the best camera on.
