6 INSTANT UPGRADES: MOVIE DEN

Stuck with the Adam Sandler of film-watching setups? This kit will upgrade it to Daniel Day Lewis-worthy levels

1.SONY BDP-S790
As far as movie-den upgrades go, this is a no-brainer. Sony's BDP-S790 Blu-ray has an absolute stack of talent where high-def pictures and sound are concerned. It also has loads of online functionality, from the obvious essentials such as Netflix and iPlayer to Sony's own Entertainment Network. And, much to the delight of the Epson projector on its far right, it's a brilliant 3D disc player, too. All this, and it won’t destroy the bank, either. What's not to like?

2.B&W PV1D
A big part of the cinema experience is the sound, and a big part of the sound is the sort of bass wallop that only comes when giant robots fight each other. Tat’s why you want a subwoofer. Te B&W PV1D is the king of subwoofers, for several reasons: it looks amazing; it has the sort of stop/start speed other subs couldn’t get near in their wildest dreams; and it digs deep, hits hard and offers an amazing amount of texture and detail.

3.EPSON EHTW6100W
A big TV is all well and good, but this is a movie den we’re talking about here. What’s required is a projector. For less than £1500 this Epson delivers huge (up to 300in) images, easily bright enough to watch in a daytime room with the curtains open. Plus, it’s 3D. Double plus, it’s wireless – there’s no need to physically attach an HDMI cable to get brilliant full HD pictures. To complete the cinema effect, pick up a screen from Draper (draperinc.com).

4.LIGNE ROSET TOGO LOUNGE SETTEE
Films are interminably long these days, so comfort is important. But as well as sitting pretty, you really need to sit in style. Tat’s where Ligne Roset comes in. It’s long been a byword for high-end, stylish design where sofas and chairs are concerned, and its Togo is no exception. We’d describe it as creative, striking, desirable... All the words you’d like to be associated with your own taste, in fact. Tere’s a huge choice of fabrics and colours, too.

5.SENNHEISER RS180
Even Michael Bay has to turn it down every now and then. If you’re the considerate type (or if those ASBOs are piling up), you can’t do better than these brilliant wireless headphones. They use the KLEER lossless RF system, so you can be sure you're not missing any of the action, and they should easily handle even the beefiest of modern blockbuster soundtracks. They’re not exactly cheap, but scrimping on sound is never a wise decision. In fact, it’s the kind of thing that should land you with an ASBO.

6.Q ACOUSTICS Q-BT3
On the one hand, you can't blame Q Acoustics for wanting a slice of the soundbar action. On the other, you’d have thought they'd have tried to do so with a soundbar. But the Q-BT3s make a lot of sense for the upgraded movie den: optical input and onboard DAC for dealing with audio from your Blu-ray player, amplification built in and, because of the two-speaker arrangement, far greater separation and focus than a soundbar can provide. And they come in a tidy choice of finishes, too.
