As far as movie-den upgrades go, this is a no-brainer. Sony's BDP-S790 Blu-ray has an absolute stack of talent where high-def pictures and sound are concerned. It also has loads of online functionality, from the obvious essentials such as Netflix and iPlayer to Sony's own Entertainment Network. A big part of the cinema experience is the sound, and a big part of the sound is the sort of bass wallop that only comes when giant robots fight each other. Tat’s why you want a subwoofer. A big TV is all well and good, but this is a movie den we’re talking about here. What’s required is a projector. 6.Q ACOUSTICS Q-BT3

On the one hand, you can't blame Q Acoustics for wanting a slice of the soundbar action. On the other, you’d have thought they'd have tried to do so with a soundbar. But the Q-BT3s make a lot of sense for the upgraded movie den: optical input and onboard DAC for dealing with audio from your Blu-ray player, amplification built in and, because of the two-speaker arrangement, far greater separation and focus than a soundbar can provide. And they come in a tidy choice of finishes, too.
